Political Astrology on the Campaign Trail
On the plus side, transiting Uranus is forming a long-term trine to her Mercury and Scorpio Ascendant. This aspect is in effect right through August and the Democratic National Convention, after which time Neptune takes over. Hillary has not done well under previous Neptune transits. Still, I'm not predicting she will lose. All three candidates have strong charts with strong challenges, and this race has too many variables to measure astrologically.

An Astrological Diary of Campaign 2008
Hillary Clinton's Midheaven
NewsScope, March 31, 2008. NewsScope has long used 8:00 am as the birth time for Hillary Clinton, but as of this week, the time used will be 8:02 am (October 26, 1947;
McCain and Vicki Iseman
NewsScope, February 25, 2008. When it comes to love and marriage, the traditional astrologer relies excessively on Venus to assess any prospects. But as one deploys the asteroids, and especially Juno, the multi-dimensional facets and inherent complexity of relationships become easier to visualize.
polls indicate that Barack Obama is closing in on Hillary Clinton's double-digit lead. However, the polls are contradictory; some say that Clinton is still far ahead, while at least one says Obama has a slight lead. Meanwhile, Bill Clinton has been pressuring superdelegates with the line that Obama can't beat McCain in the general election.

Vicki Iseman and John McCain
NewsScope, February 25, 2008. Comparing Vicki Iseman's horoscope (September 1, 1967; Homer City, PA; time unknown) with John McCain's (August 29, 1936; 8:37 am; Panama City) shows some strong connections involving Venus. Iseman was born with her Virgo Sun conjunct Venus, giving her an innate sensuality that McCain must feel, since his Virgo Sun is also conjunct her Venus.
McCain's Venus in turn is conjunct her Uranus-Pluto conjunction, which adds plenty of passion and excitement to their interchanges, but being in his secretive 12th house, prefers to fly under the radar. With transiting Uranus heading into an opposition with this complex, this story is bound to have legs.

Iseman's Mars in Scorpio is sextile McCain's Venus, a combination that indicates sexual compatibility. However, since it's her Mars, she's the aggressor here; she's the one who has pursued McCain. The closest aspect McCain's Mars has to her chart is the trine to her Saturn, which he naturally expresses as a constructive business relationship.
Cindy McCain (May 20, 1954) has Venus at 26º Gemini, which links up to John McCain's ambitious Capricorn Moon, but is otherwise not dramatically connected to his chart. She does have Juno at 21º Leo, which is conjunct his Juno at 23º Leo, making them good marriage partners.
Hillary's Comeback
NewsScope, March 10, 2008. As described in that February 17 column, Obama's horoscope* currently has all the magnetic power of a rock star, due to the rare and fortuitous placement of his progressed (P2) Jupiter. However, Hillary's P2 Jupiter is also well placed, and the exciting, electric sextile between transiting Jupiter and Uranus brings tremendous support to Hillary's horoscope (favorably aspecting her Mercury and Ascendant), indicating that she should take Pennsylvania on April 22.

Natally, Hillary has her Moon in Pisces, an unfavorable placement since zero American presidents were born with the Moon in Pisces. Something about the victim status that tends to follow the Pisces Moon around is not what the American people want in their leaders. An astrologer might advise her to avoid any complaints of victimization when transiting Uranus is conjunct her Moon in June.
Hillary is favored with her Mars in Leo. Ten of our 42 presidents were born with Mars in Leo, a statistical anomaly that in itself validates astrology. Hillary's P2 Jupiter (at 13º51' Sagittarius) forms a close trine to her Mars (at 14º00' Leo). This connection gets stronger between now and January 2009 when it's exact. This increasingly gives voters the sense that she's confident and having fun, and emphasizes her potential as commander-in-chief.

The Death of Conservatism?
NewsScope, March 3, 2008. Is the Conservative movement dead? For the first time in many elections, conservatives don't have a popular horse to ride to victory. Then, as if ceremoniously ending the conservative movement, the iconic William F. Buckley passed away last Wednesday. He is largely credited for the foundation of the modern conservative movement, which began with the first issue of the National Review in 1955.
The next Saturn-Pluto conjunction took place in 1982 when arch-conservative Ronald Reagan was elected. He presided over the collapse of the Soviet Union, which conservatives tout as their greatest accomplishment. William F. Buckley, a widely-respected manifestation of conservatism (November 24, 1925; 5:45 pm; New York, NY), was born and died when Saturn and Pluto were trine, or 124º apart in each case.
The current election season is dominated by the Saturn-Uranus cycle, with these two planets reaching opposition on election day. Saturn in Virgo can be seen as the remnant of the conservative movement, while Uranus represents liberation from the past. But with Pluto in Saturn's sign now, conservative politics have taken deep roots in the U.S. psyche, which should sprout a new branch by the time Saturn squares Pluto in 2010.

Conservative political ideology has an actual astrological signature. As described in Cosmos and Psyche, Richard Tarnas associates conservative politics with the Saturn-Pluto cycle. In the U.S., the conservative movement empowered itself right after World War II, when Saturn and Pluto were conjunct on the U.S. Midheaven. That era witnessed the establishment of all-powerful military and intelligence agencies designed to contain communism, including the DoD, the CIA, and the NSC.
Hillary Clinton's Midheaven
NewsScope, March 31, 2008. Over the next several months, Hillary's horoscope shows great strength as well as some severe challenges. Her Mars in Leo is particularly active, as it receives three major aspects (T Pluto, P2 Mercury, and P2 Jupiter). Mars represents her sense of mission, her competitive spirit, and her natural leadership qualities. Jupiter's influence adds a good-natured, spirited adventurism, while the progressed Mercury and transiting Pluto aspects are more relentless and confrontational.
When using an 8:00 am birth time, the progressed Sun forms a trine to her 4º34' Virgo Midheaven in March 2009, which was previously used as a major indicator for her election and inauguration. Changing Hillary's Midheaven to 5º06' Virgo means that her progressed Sun won't form the empowering trine to her Midheaven until December 2009, which may very well be out of range as a success indicator.
Obama Fights Disinformation
NewsScope for April 7, 2008. As described recently, Barack Obama's horoscope (August 4, 1961; 1:06 pm; Honolulu, HI) is currently blessed by an extraordinarily placed progressed Jupiter. What astrologically stands in his way? Considering the challenging outer planet transits, probably the most significant is Uranus opposing Obama's Mars, with the first of three hits coming on June 2. Transiting Uranus to Mars is a volatile, explosive energy, and anything can happen.
What makes this particular transit so potentially dangerous is that Obama's progressed (P2) Mercury and Mars are conjunct in his 12th house of secret enemies. This P2 Mercury-Mars conjunction becomes exact on September 29, but is a behind-the-scenes force to reckon with during the entire phase that transiting Uranus is in opposition to his natal Mars, which is between now and next March.
The P2 Mercury-Mars conjunction takes place at 22º Libra, so that as transiting Uranus opposes natal Mars at 22º Virgo, it's simultaneously forming a quincunx to the 12th house progressed conjunction. This confluence of astro-events at 22º will bring intense enemy action, and any prudent astrologer might be concerned for Obama's physical safety. Presumably, his P2 Jupiter will provide much protection, but the 12th house influences involving Mercury indicate a rising tide of disinformation.

Edgewater Hospital, IL). While the difference may seem slight, it does significantly alter the location of her Midheaven, which changes from 4º34' Virgo to 5º06' Virgo. An unsubstantiated source for 8:02 am has been reported (see astrodatabank).
A case in point comes from last week's New York Times report that John McCain had a scandalous affair with lobbyist Vicki Iseman.
