Sarah Palin Resigns as Alaska Governor

NewsScope for July 6, 2009; Sarah Palin's decision to resign as Alaska Governor came the day after the release of a critical Vanity Fair article. Reaction was swift and divided across the punditocracy. Was it a smart move, a first step as she maps out a path to 2012, or was it political suicide, an impulsive reaction and dereliction of her duty as the elected governor?
* As noted in astrodatabank, reported times of 4:40 pm and 9:43 pm have not been backed up by any birth certificate and are probably rectified.
Sarah Palin's birth time is unknown*, but her solar chart (February 11, 1964; noon; Sandpoint, Idaho) gives us some clues about what comes next. First, her Saturn at 25º Aquarius is the key point in her political stardom, since it's exactly conjunct the U.S. Moon. This placement reflects her status as an authoritative voice in American politics, whether one agrees with her or not.
But the timing of her decision suggests that she was in deep conflict and felt under attack. Transiting Jupiter, Chiron and Neptune are currently all conjunct her Saturn, bringing her sense of responsibility and position into play.

Eclipse Hits
U.S. Horoscope

NewsScope; January 18, 2010; A NewsScope reader noted the fascinating connection between last week's New Moon eclipse and the rise and fall of numerous broadcast personalities. NBC's cast of stand-up comics has become a joke in its own right, with Conan O'Brien threatening to go to FOX as Jay Leno returns to the 11:35 pm slot. And over at FOX, Sarah Palin began her stint as a political commentator.

Why the eclipse should affect U.S. media personalities becomes clear
when considering the U.S. Scorpio Rising horoscope (July 4, 2:21 pm; Philadelphia). This chart's ruling planet is Pluto, found in the third house of news and information. Pluto here symbolizes the fascinating, charismatic media personalities that shape public opinion and perceptions. The eclipse took place at 25º Capricorn, only 2º from the U.S. Pluto.
That's generally a helpful development for an ambitious politician. However, transiting Mars was squaring her natal Mars-Saturn last week, as her political critics revealed the intense infighting and devastating effect she had on McCain's campaign.

Her Mars by secondary progression is in the last degree of Pisces, which describes her sense of desperation and feelings of victimization. This corroborates rumors that she's unhappy with her life and is leaving politics. However, her progressed Mars enters Aries within 18 months. Perhaps she won't run for president in 2012, but this progression will bring a surge of energy, a new start, and be accompanied by renewed popularity, since her P2 Mars will be joining her Venus.

Sarah Palin Launches
her 2012 Campaign

NewsScope; November 23, 2009; Last Wednesday Sarah Palin launched her "Going Rogue" book tour, which looked more like a 2012 run for the presidency. The tour bus, the buttons for sale, and the thousands of fans lining up all had the feeling of a political campaign, though Palin has not said whether or not she will run, only that she's keeping her options open.

Astrologically, the surge in conservative politics on the national radar screen arrives just as Saturn and Pluto are squaring each other. This belt-tightening, restrictive Saturn-Pluto vibration was also in play when the GOP took two key governorships earlier in the month. While Palin sucked up all the political oxygen, the Republican governors were meeting quietly in Texas to plot strategy for the mid-term elections next November.
conservative Saturn-Pluto square to launch her tour, Saturn and Pluto are and will be forming challenging aspects to her progressed Mars. Such stressful planetary situations will sustain her role as a polarizing figure.

In May 2010, transiting Jupiter and Uranus will leave Pisces and enter Aries, at which time they will also be conjunct Palin's progressed Mars and natal Venus. So here we have a grand alignment on Palin's natal Venus: her progressed Mars, plus transiting Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Pluto. The outer planet transits unfold in 2010 and 2011, but the progressed Mars to her Venus remains a factor into 2012. So over the next three years she will likely remain a colorful, polarizing figure and frequently in the headlines.
As described last July 6, Palin's progressed Mars is about to enter Aries and conjoin her Venus – a powerfully dynamic combination that should bring her tremendous popularity and success. However, while she's capitalizing on the

The Rising Rant

NewsScope; September 21, 2009; The current cover story in Time magazine features controversial political commentator Glenn Beck, a "mad man" with a gift for exploiting fear and paranoia. "He is the hottest thing in the political-rant racket, left or right." Unmentioned in the Time piece is that Beck called Obama a racist during his FoxTV segment, which resulted in a massive advertiser boycott.

Glenn Beck was born with his Aquarius Sun conjunct Mars and Saturn (February 10, 1964; Mount Vernon, WA; time unknown), giving him the same anger and control issues as Sarah Palin, who was born the day after Beck. Typical of the socially-minded Aquarian, both have turned their personal angst into large-scale issues. Since their Sun-Mars-Saturn is also conjunct the U.S. Moon, they have both reached a national audience.

In the broader celestial scheme, the outer planets Saturn, Uranus and Pluto are now entering into a T-square formation. Last week Saturn and Uranus were exactly opposite, and now Saturn is advancing into its first square with Pluto, becoming  exact on November 15. As detailed by
Richard Tarnas in Cosmos and Psyche, Saturn-Pluto combinations are historically associated with the empowerment of conservatism, often accompanied by totalitarian impulses, organized violence, and oppression.

In the U.S., we can anticipate a rise in angry reactionaries who oppose the Uranian changes espoused by Team Obama. The last time Saturn, Uranus and Pluto were dynamically aligned was in the mid-1960s, when the Uranus-Pluto conjunction opposed Saturn. At the time, profound social and political unrest was experienced throughout the global village. We can expect no less this time around....
Here's the astrological view of Sarah Palin, as chronicled in recent NewsScope articles:
